Social Connections Running Club
Without Limits Charleston will lead the Social Connections Running Club in early 2023. The Social Connections Running Club is for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The program will be held on five consecutive Saturdays from February 4th through March 4th and is led by our certified coaches. The running group is designed with the following goals in mind:
1. To build running skills and confidence
2. For social opportunities in the context of running
3. To have fun without pressure
4. To exercise/expend energy which is beneficial for self-regulation and sensory-regulation
The club/program is aimed toward children 10-18 years old and is open to all running experience levels. Exceptions can be made to the age range, but please reach out before registering to request more info. Practices will be one hour long and held on Saturday mornings at 9am at Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park. All participants will receive a Without Limits drawstring bag.
While competition is secondary to the goals listed above, all participants will be offered a discounted race entry to the Race The Landing 5k on Thursday, April 13th. Additionally, Coach Jen Bennett will provide an optional training plan for each participant to follow should they want to have some additional structure outside the five practices.
Registration fee: $150
Limited partial scholarships are available. Please email email@example.com on how to request a scholarship.
Hydration and nutrition are important for this program. All athletes should bring water to every practice.
